Disaster Unemployment Assistance now available for some Kentucky counties affected by April storms
FRANKFORT, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — Kentuckians who lost work due to the severe weather in April may now apply for Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA), according to a release Monday from Governor Andy Beshear’s office.
The assistance is available to individuals in 13 counties that were approved for Individual Assistance following a Major Disaster Declaration signed by President Donald Trump on April 24. Those counties are Anderson, Butler, Carroll, Christian, Clark, Franklin, Hardin, Hopkins, Jessamine, McCracken, Mercer, Owen and Woodford.
DUA provides financial help to workers and self-employed individuals who lost jobs, had work interrupted, or became the primary income provider due to the disaster. Farmers and others who are typically not eligible for traditional unemployment may qualify under the program.
To be eligible, individuals must prove their job loss or interruption was directly caused by the storms, and submit documentation such as a photo ID, proof of address, and recent tax documents within 21 days of applying.
Benefits may be available for up to 29 weeks beginning April 6. The deadline to apply is June 23, 2025.
Applications can be filed online at kcc.ky.gov or by calling 502-564-2900.
The DUA program is funded by FEMA and does not impact employers.
