Diabetes Patients Get Special Day At The Ballpark

Having a support group is paramount when you’re fighting any disease. That’s why the American Diabetes Association hosted a family fun day Saturday afternoon.

It was held at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. The day gave kids and families the chance to connect with others affected by diabetes.

The group enjoyed some good baseball as well but first, they heard from Becky Furuta.

Furuta is a type one diabetic but the disease doesn’t hold her back. She’s an amateur cyclist and one of only 15 female cyclists around the world riding for Team Novo Nordisk.

“Hopefully that’s what our team does is provide kids with role models who are doing well, who are successful with diabetes and we just want to let them know that they can still pursue their dreams with the diagnosis of type 1 diabetes,” said Becky Furuta, guest speaker and cyclist.

It was a full day for the group. They also completed crafts, enjoyed some inflatables and competed in a family scavenger hunt.
