CSX: No hazardous materials leaked during train derailment
FALMOUTH, Ky. (WTVQ) – According to CSX no hazardous materials were leaked.
CSX Statement:
“CSX and area first responders continue their work at the site of this morning’s CSX train derailment near Woodson Street in Falmouth, KY. Together with local hazardous materials teams, CSX experts inspected the derailed cars and confirmed that 24 cars derailed, including four loaded hazardous materials cars containing sulfuric acid. There were no hazardous materials released. CSX and Falmouth officials are developing the next phase of an action plan that protects public safety and minimizes the impact to the community and environment. At this time, it is premature to speculate about the timing of cleanup conclusion.
CSX appreciates the patience of Falmouth residents as the derailment is cleaned up as quickly as is safely possible. CSX is working with the City and first responders to provide support for the residents who are affected by this derailment. Affected residents can visit the CSX Community Outreach Center at the Pendleton County High School auditorium lobby at 2525 US 27 North in Falmouth, or call 1-800-331-4031.
CSX appreciates the swift and professional response from Pendleton County and the Falmouth Fire Department.
The train was transporting 76 loaded cars, some of which are hazardous materials, and 49 empty cars en route from Cincinnati, Ohio to Atlanta, Georgia. The cause of the derailment is still under investigation. We will continue to provide more information as it is confirmed.”

FALMOUTH, Ky. (WTVQ) – Kentucky Emergency Management is reporting that the shelter-in-place order for Pendleton Co. has been lifted.
This following a train derailment at about 10:30 a.m. that included cars carrying hazardous material.
Emergency Management also says US 27, and most streets in Falmouth have reopened. The only remaining closed streets are in the immediate vicinity of the derailment.

1:52 p.m.
Emergency officials in Pendleton Co. say there are no reported injuries after a train derailed in Falmouth around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.
A statement from railroad company CSX says that the train was traveling from Cincinnati to Atlanta, and that some of the cars were carrying hazardous materials.
The Pendleton Co. Sheriff says that about 20 cars overturned in the derailment, and emergency personnel have confirmed that at least one of them was carrying sulfuric acid. No leaks, however, have been reported.
Out of an abundance of caution, nearby Southern Elementary School was evacuated to Pendleton County High School, and residents have been advised to shelter in place.
Additionally, all roads into Falmouth have been shut down until the scene is more thoroughly evaluated.

A train derailment in Falmouth has shut down all roads into the town, and caused the evacuation of nearby Southern Elementary School.
In a statement from railroad company CSX, some of the roughly 20 cars that overturned contained hazardous materials. ABC affiliate WCPO is reporting that one of them was carrying sulfuric acid.
Pendleton County EMA says that all roads into the town have been shut down.

11:35 a.m.
The Pendleton County Sheriff says that a train has derailed near Park Street in Falmouth.
According to the Sheriff, at least 20 cars overturned in the incident, which happened just before 11:00 a.m.
ABC affiliate WCPO is reporting that at least one of the cars was carrying sulfuric acid.
The Sheriff says law enforcement is asking everyone in the area to shut their windows and turn off their air conditioning.
ABC 36 is monitoring this situation and will update this story as additional information becomes available.
