UPDATE: Woman shot, man dead in Berea death investigation
BEREA, Ky. (WTVQ) – Additional details are emerging in a death investigation in Berea Wednesday morning.
Kentucky State Police say they received a call at around 7:20 a.m. from a woman who was driving, saying she had been shot in the arm. Officers say the woman told them she had been held against her will overnight at a house on Guynn Road in Berea. Officers say the woman pulled over at Gold Star Chili, where she was taken to UK Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
Investigators say the woman also told them that as she was escaping the home, she heard a gunshot go off.
A short time later another phone call came into police saying a man was lying dead in the yard at the same location the woman had just left. When police arrived they found 44-year-old Nathan Johnson dead in the yard with what is believed to be a self inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Madison County Coroner.
Troopers say Johnson and the woman were an estranged couple with at least one child together.
The investigation is ongoing.
