DEVELOPING: One Dead After Bardstown Chase
BARDSTOWN, Ky. (WTVQ) -The Bardstown Police Department says one person is dead after officers fired non-lethal rounds toward a suspect on East Stephen Foster Avenue Friday morning.
According to a press release, Nelson County dispatch received a call from a woman who said she was being chased by her former boyfriend near HWY 245 and Bloomfield Road.
When responders joined the chase, they say the suspect purposely ran into the woman’s car, disabling it, before continuing south on Bloomfield Road.
Pursuing officers say that as the suspect’s vehicle approached Stephen Foster Avenue, they heard a gunshot come from the vehicle, which then skidded across the intersection and onto the My Old Kentucky Home State Park’s golf course.
Police say they set up a perimeter and tried to communicate with the suspect in the car. When they didn’t receive a response, officers fired non-lethal beanbag rounds toward the vehicle, trying to elicit some kind of reaction.
After a response was still not forthcoming, police approached the vehicle, and found the suspect laying across the front seat, dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
