Despite recent shootings, police say crime is down

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Police say nine people have been shot since Sunday and three of them have died.

The most recent shootings were on Breathitt Avenue and Gerald Drive.

Police say crime in the city is down from this time last year.

Lexington Police say part one crime, or their highest priority crimes including: rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, arson and shootings are down by 1.2% compared to this time last year.

Tuesday morning’s deadly shooting on Gerald Drive is the city’s ninth homicide of the year but the only ones police say are still unsolved, all happened within the past few days.

Just before two o’clock Tuesday morning, police say someone shot into the bedroom window of Thomas Brown’s home while he and his wife were sleeping.

Brown, 55, was hit at least four times but his wife was not hurt, according to investigators.

Brown later died at UK Hospital.

Monday night around ten o’clock police were called to drive-by-shooting on Breathitt Avenue.

They say three people were standing on a porch when a dark SUV drove by and began firing.

A man, a woman and a teenager were hurt but going to be ok, according to police.

Investigators say it is too soon to say if any of the recent shootings are connected.
