Derby Eve Lexington hopes to bring tradition back to horse country
It’s been awhile since Lexington did Derby Eve in grand fashion. Friday’s party is music to the ears of many.
"It’s not a bad thing. It’s a great benefit to the community," said one person as they waltzed down the red carpet. "Very exciting. Very glad to be a part of this event tonight," added another.
for bettors, insight into Saturday’s race can be found with Keeneland’s "betologists". But don’t ask one of the few mediums hanging out.
"What do you say to someone who comes in here tonight and asks you about the Derby tomorrow," asked ABC 36. Laughing, one psychic responded, "I’ll say there’s no way I’m going to give a reading as to who’s going to win the Derby."
Organizers and guests alike hope derby eve catches on again in Lexington.
"We are horse country in Central Kentucky and it’s ridiculous that this doesn’t happen, you know the night before the biggest race in Kentucky," said Donna Sturgeon.
"I didn’t realize Anita hadn’t had one since 1998. And when Donna approached us about getting involved in it, well I though man, this is fantastic," added a guest.
