Deputies: Children found living in filth in Richmond

RICHMOND, Ky. (WTVQ)- Madison County deputies responded to a call about a woman involved in a fight with her adult child early Tuesday morning.

When deputies arrived, 41-year-old Tonya Hensley of Berea, told them she had custody of four children who were supposed to be in the home, one 17-year-old and three children under the age of 5, but deputies found the home to be empty, according to a citation.

Deputies say they could smell a strong odor of urine. Throughout the home, deputies found cockroaches crawling on the walls, furniture and bedding. Hensley, who was very intoxicated, told deputies she didn’t know where the children were. Through dispatch, it was discovered the children were safe, the citation continued.

Deputies told Hensley she was being arrested for her lack of knowledge of where the minors were and for the unsanitary conditions of the home but Hensley said she wasn’t leaving and they needed to get a warrant. Deputies used some force as they pulled Hensley from the couch as she attempted to resist arrest, the citation concluded.

Hensley was booked into the Madison County Detention Center. She is charged with four counts of endangering the welfare of a minor and resisting arrest.
