Deer births tiny twins at Land Between The Lakes

LAND BETWEEN THE LAKES, Ky. (AP) — Wildlife officials at the Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area say one of their white-tailed deer gave birth to twins. The two tiny deer with white spots are roughly size of dinner plates.

The births were reported at the Woodlands Nature Station, but wildlife officials say they are currently hard to see because the mother is hiding them at the base of trees or in thick leaves. As they grow older, they will be easier to find in the enclosure.

Photos of the twin deer were taken in early June.

John Pollpeter, lead naturalist at the Woodlands station, says their spotted camouflage and lack of body scent helps them hide from predators. The fawns will lay motionless until their mother encourages them to nurse.
