Deadly historic Kentucky floods latest

FRANKFORT, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – The death toll from last weekend’s devastating floods has risen to 21, with the most recent fatality reported in Logan County, according to Governor Andy Beshear.

During an update, Beshear said more than 300 people affected by the floods remain in shelters at parks and hotels, while another 270 are staying in schools and churches. Power restoration continues, with over 600 storm-related outages still impacting residents, and more than 100 roads remain closed across the state.

The governor is expected to provide another update on recovery efforts at 11 a.m. Meanwhile, he is hosting a blood drive in partnership with the American Red Cross at 9:30 a.m. at the State Capitol. Monetary donations are still being accepted through the Team Kentucky Storm Relief Fund to assist flood victims.

The Kentucky National Guard continues to assist in relief efforts, distributing water and cleaning supplies to flood victims in eastern Kentucky and other affected areas. Guardsmen are also working to clear debris and rebuild damaged roads as part of the recovery efforts.
