Danville Officer injured while responding to request for assistance

DANVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ) – An officer responding to a call for assistance ended up in the hospital after a traffic accident in Danville.

According to officers, at aroun 9:50 am., Detective Robert Ladd was traveling South on Fourth Street, en route to an incident at the Danville Walmart, when he was hit by a vehicle turning left from the right turn lane near the intersection of Fourth and Martin Luther King Boulevard.

Detective Ladd was taken to the Ephraim McDowell Emergency Room where he was treated and released.

The driver of the other vehicle was not injured.

The incident at Walmart began at 9:30 a.m. when Danville Police were called to investigate a male subject who was acting erratically and possibly under the influence.

Upon arrival, officers found 33-year-old James E. Smith, of Junction City, who they say was uncooperative, and then began assaulting police during their investigation.  Smith was taken into custody after a brief struggle, including the use of a taser.

Smith was lodged at the Boyle County Detention Center and charged with public intoxication, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, assault, and criminal mischief.

No officers were injured during the altercation
