Daniel Cameron files to run for U.S. Senate seat in Kentucky

FRANKFORT, KY. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Former Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron officially filed paperwork Wednesday morning to run for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by longtime Senator Mitch McConnell.

Cameron filed his candidacy at the Secretary of State’s Office at 9:30 a.m., formally entering what is expected to be a highly competitive race.

On the Democratic side, Amy McGrath filed her paperwork Tuesday, marking her second attempt to win the Senate seat after a previous run against McConnell.

Several other candidates are also seeking the nomination. Republicans in the race include U.S. Rep. Andy Barr and businessman Nate Morris. Democratic candidates also include Pamela Anderson, Joel Willett and Logan Forsythe.

Kentucky voters will choose party nominees during the primary election, which is scheduled for May 19.
