DanceBlue marathon breaks record, raises over $2 million for the kids

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The University of Kentucky’s DanceBlue is celebrating the largest fundraising total in its history.

Nearly a thousand students attended the 24-hour no sitting, no sleeping dance marathon and at the final hour of the event students revealed the grand total of $2,000,109 and 20 cents.

DanceBlue is a student-run organization that fundraises year-round to support the Kentucky Children’s Hospital Hematology and Oncology Clinic.

Over the last fourteen years, the organization has raised more than $17 million, providing financial and emotional support for children and families living with childhood cancer.

Christina Stephens, DanceBlue marketing chair, says “DanceBlue is an entity that unifies students all across the University of Kentucky’s campus through the fight against pediatric cancer.”

Student involvement goes far beyond the 24-hour marathon. According to the University of Kentucky, DanceBlue students volunteer approximately 1,000 hours in the clinic each year.

For years students have selflessly served the Kentucky Children’s Hospital and as students say it’s all “For the Kids.”
