UPDATE: Woman witnesses I-64 crash and tries to help a victim

UPDATE (9/26/2019) 5:28 p.m. – A woman who saw the crash happen right before her eyes got out of her own car to help.

Connie Broughton was trying to get home to Frankfort. She says when she saw the crash while she was driving on the interstate. She turned on her emergency flashers and abruptly pulled over.

Connie Broughton explained what she saw and said, “He went across the median, down the median, and jumped over top of another car and he started coming down and stuff and the next thing I know I’m seeing nothing but smoke.”

She saw the man who was driving the car get ejected from his vehicle and she rushed over to help.

Broughton says she kept talking him and tried to keep him calm.

“I was praying for him and I prayed over top of him I didn’t want him to go into shock,” said Broughton.

The Sheriff’s office says it expects everyone in the crash to recover.

UPDATE (9/26/2019) 11:59 a.m. – All lanes on westbound I-64 are open.

WINCHESTER, Ky. (WTVQ) – A crash has closed part of Interstate 64 in Clark County.

According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, the two-vehicle accident happened on westbound I-64 near the 101 mile marker around 9 a.m. Thursday.

The Clark County Fire Department says the the crash involved a car and van.

Fire officials say the small car was traveling east bound, crossed the median, and collided with the van that flipped over.

Firefighters say the person driving the small car was thrown from the vehicle and was taken by helicopter to UK hospital.

Firefighters say there were three men in the van. One of them was taken to UK hospital by ambulance in serious condition, another man had minor injuries, and a third man walked away with no injuries.

All lanes on westbound I-64 in the area is blocked. The cabinet estimates the lanes will remain blocked for two hours.
