Crews rescue dog suffering medical emergency on hiking trail
WOLFE COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Another dog has been rescued from the hiking trails in the Red River Gorge.
Wolfe County Search and Rescue crews say they were called out Tuesday after a 911 call about a Rottweiler suffering a medical emergency on the Swift Camp Creek Trail.
Rescuers say the dog had a preexisting medical condition, but the extreme heat and humidity may have made things worse. The animal was unable to continue the hike, and Wolfe County crews requested help from Powell County rescue teams to carry the dog out safely.
This marks the second rescue in less than a week. On Saturday, Wolfe County teams also rescued two hikers and their dog from the Gorge.
Officials are urging hikers to be prepared for extreme heat and to consider their pets’ limits when bringing them on long treks.
