Crews clean mud from flooded Cynthiana baseball field

CYNTHIANA, Ky. (WTVQ) – In Harrison County, people are still trying to clean up a ballpark after last week’s flooding.

The Parks and Recreation Director, Darrell Baxter, says the fields were under at least three feet of water. He says some areas had more like five or six feet of flooding.

Since most of the water receded, workers have been busy clearing out mud.

“We’ve been doing a lot of spraying and [using] a lot of bleach to clean things up,” said Baxter.

The Licking River flooded in last week’s rain. Baxter says the concession stand had water up to 39 inches.

As they’ve been trying to clean, it keeps raining. Baxter says although it keeps bringing more mud, the mud is easier to clean up than if it all dried.

“We will make it happen for the people who live here and the people that are coming to play ball here,” said Baxter.

Crews expect at least another week of cleaning and re-painting but they hope to have teams practicing as soon as possible.
