Crash Victim Remembered As Habitat For Humanity Champion
On a personal note, one Lexington organization has an international reach, one that a Lexington man was very influential in.
Pat Smith was in the crash eight years ago but even though he’s gone, he recently helped reach a major milestone with Lexington Habitat for Humanity.
"When someone you love dies, part of your grief is for yourself and part of your grief is for the world and the things that person will no longer be able to contribute."
Pat Smith physically left Lexington and this world August 27th, 2006. He forgot to take his contributions with him though.
"The legacy that Pat brings to Lexington and Habitat and the world as a whole is incredible."
Since he and 48 others tragically and unexpectedly passed, an endowment has kept moving in his honor. Recently that endowment and Lexington Habitat, hit a milestone: $1 million raised, all in Pat’s name.
"He was committed to the mission that everyone has a decent place to live."
The money is a stark reminder of Pat Smith’s selflessness at home and abroad. Another reminder, built only three years ago memorialized those crash victims.
On Wednesday, the 8th anniversary of the crash of Flight 5191, flowers will wilt at the foot of a sculpture but legacies will last forever.
