Corrections Officers Wear Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness
In an effort to raise awareness about Breast Cancer, blue is getting a pop of pink at Lexington Fayette Urban County Government Community Corrections.
Now until the end of October, Community Correction Officers can wear a pop of pink, or a full pink T-shirt, as a part of their uniform.
“We saw other agencies doing it, and we thought we should adopt it too”, says Community Corrections Director Rodney Ballard about the uniform change.
Ballard says wearing pink is a great way to get employees thinking about and talking about breast cancer prevention.
To drive the point home, Director Ballard is sharing educational information with employees about how the disease affects both women and men.
Director Ballard hopes to break through the stigma that men face with the issue, “today through education, through self-breast exams, through mammograms we have educated the female population and [now] men, about the significance of catching breast cancer early and making it survivable”, Ballard explains.
