Coroner identifies gunman in fatal Lexington church shooting

The Fayette County Coroner has identified the shooter in Sunday’s deadly shooting rampage as 47-year-old Guy House.
ABC 36 News Now has learned House has a lengthy criminal record, focusing mainly around domestic violence cases. In fact, according to Fayette County court records, House was scheduled for a hearing Monday, July 14, in connection to a domestic violence case. This scheduled hearing comes just one day after the fatal shooting spree.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) UPDATE:Authorities say two women were killed, two other people injured, and a Kentucky State Trooper shot during a series of violent incidents Sunday that began near Blue Grass Airport and ended with gunfire at a Lexington church.
According to Fayette County Coroner Gary Ginn, 72-year-old Beverly Gumm and 32-year-old Christina Combs were killed when a gunman opened fire at Richmond Road Baptist Church on Old Richmond Road. Two men were also shot and remain hospitalized.
Police say the shooter was the same suspect who earlier shot a Kentucky State Trooper on Terminal Drive near Blue Grass Airport. Police say the trooper was attempting a traffic stop, when the suspect shot him and took off. The trooper is reportedly stable in the hospital. Officials stressed that the Terminal Drive shooting was not related to airport operations, and flights continued as usual.
The suspect’s name has not yet been released. Lexington Police confirmed that the suspect was shot and killed by officers at the church.
During a press conference, Lexington Police Chief Lawrence Weathers said, “Preliminary information indicates that the suspect may have had a connection to the individuals at the church.”
According to Sayre Christian Village, the suspect briefly drove onto their campus between leaving the airport getting to the church, hijacking a vehicle from a visitor. In a statement, CEO Karen Venis said the visitor was unharmed and their campus lockdown procedures worked as intended.
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear addressed the tragedy on X, saying:
“Please pray for everyone affected by these senseless acts of violence, and let’s give thanks for the swift response by the Lexington Police Department and Kentucky State Police. Details are still emerging, and we will share more information as available.”
Attorney General Russell Coleman also issued a statement, saying in part:
“Today, violence invaded the Lord’s House… We are grateful to the Kentucky State Police and Lexington Police Department, who courageously ran toward danger to protect this community. We turn to God with our prayers for the injured Trooper and the victims’ families.”
Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton sent a statement to ABC 36 News Now, which reads, “Like so many communities across the country, today our community has experienced a mass shooting, resulting in multiple deaths and injuries. A state police trooper has also been injured. Our police have a strong partnership with state police. The agencies will work together to fully investigate this tragedy. We pray for the victims’ families, and join our community in mourning this senseless tragedy.”
The Kentucky State Police and Lexington Police continue to investigate. More updates are expected as new details become available.
LATEST: LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 News Now) — Kentucky State Police say a suspect is dead and a trooper is hospitalized after a shooting and standoff that unfolded Sunday morning in Fayette County.
According to a post on KSP’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, the incident began around 11:36 a.m. when a suspect shot a trooper near the Blue Grass Airport, and left the scene. The suspect ended up at Richmond Road Baptist Church, where both KSP and Lexington Police were able to secure the scene.
KSP confirmed in the post that the trooper is receiving medical care and that there are “multiple victims” at the church. EMS crews remain on scene tending to those injured.
KSP says the suspect is dead.
The investigation is ongoing, and more details will be released as they become available.
Governor Andy Beshear posted the following reaction to his X social media account:
“Kentucky, we are aware of a series of incidents in Lexington around one suspect, including a trooper-involved shooting and an additional shooting at Richmond Road Baptist Church with multiple injuries. The trooper and others are being treated at a nearby hospital.
Please pray for everyone affected by these senseless acts of violence, and let’s give thanks for the swift response by the Lexington Police Department and Kentucky State Police. Details are still emerging, and we will share more information as available.”
UPDATE: We have learned this is a possible shooting that took place in an area of Terminal Drive.
According to Blue Grass Airport social media accounts, “There is a law enforcement investigation impacting a portion of Terminal Drive. Our team is on site guiding passengers to open parking. All flights and operations are now continuing as usual.”
