SATURDAY:
Police say a Berea College student is dead and another student is in critical condition after a crash in Madison County Friday night.
A Chevy pick up truck and a sedan collided on Walnut Meadow Road and 956 right off of exit 77.
People in Berea say this kind of thing just doesn’t happen around there.
The Madison County Coroner says the impact was so severe the sedan was completely cut in half, and the back seat was thrown 100 yards away from the accident scene.
Four people were taken to the hospital, but 23-year-old Dzhoana Ivanova from Bulgaria, who was in the back seat of the sedan, did not survive.
Austin Gage Issacs who works at Berea Coffee and Tea, says Ivanova comes in all the time.
With the second DUI accident in a quiet town in two days, he says it’s all hard to process.
Police say they received several 911 calls right before the crash, describing a car driving recklessly through town.
One person remains on life support at UK Medical Center. No word on anyone else’s condition.
