Coroner: 12-year-old dead after house fire in Pulaski Co.
SCIENCE HILL, Ky. (WTVQ) — A 12-year-old boy is dead after a house fire broke out in Pulaski County early Wednesday morning, according to the coroner.
A family of four was inside when the fire started around four in the morning.
Tyrone Wesley, the father, says he thinks his son, Hunter, went back inside to try and get his dog and got stuck in his bedroom.
“We were coming out the door and my wife had my daughter in her hands and he was right behind her,” says dad. “So I busted open the front door and we all ran out and he was nowhere to be found. He was right there at the front door he was right there with us and he just turned back.”
He says he broke out the bedroom window and tried getting him out but it was too hot and smoky so he couldn’t see anything.
Dad, mom, and their five-year-old little girl made it out safely.
Fire officials say mom was sent to a hospital for smoke inhalation.
The family says they lost four dogs.
The father says he could hear Hunter in the bedroom but couldn’t get to him.
Multiple fire departments were on scene until around ten in the morning.
Science Hill Fire Chief Josh Whitis says the low temps made it harder to fight the fire.
He says a heat lamp on the back porch used to keep their outside cats warm may have been what caused the fire.
The investigation has been turned over to the State Fire Marshal’s Office for an official cause.
Chief Whitis says the home is a total loss.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family.
Here’s the link to that.
First Baptist Church in Somerset has also set up a Hunter Memorial Fund.
You can go and donate at the church. Checks can be written of to the church but make sure to designate offering for Wesley family.
