Community Corrections continues to work with the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department for guidance and direction for the testing of additional inmates and staff, Capt. Matt LeMonds said in a statement.
The jail currently has about 890 inmates, not anywhere near its 1,400 inmate capacity. It has about 300 total staff.
During a meeting Wednesday with Mayor Linda Gorton and the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council, Public Health Commissioner Dr. Kraigh Humbaugh pushed for all Lexingtonians to get a flu shot this year.
Humbaugh says only around 50-percent of people get them each year. He says it’s easy to confuse flu symtoms with coronavirus symptoms and he says he wants to avoid a second public health crisis.
Humbaugh says the process of administering flu vaccines will have to be modified this year due to precautions.
For the month of August, Humbaugh says 32 is the average age of a Lexingtonian with the coronavirus. He says ages 25-34 is the group with the highest percentage of cases this month.
