Corbin woman accused of faking her kidnapping
CORBIN, Ky. (WTVQ) – A Corbin woman is accused of faking her own kidnapping to get money from her father.
Corbin Police say 19-year-old Abbygail Farley’s father reported her missing Monday morning.
The next day, police say he started getting text messages from Farley’s phone from someone threatening to harm her if they didn’t get $600.
Police say Farley’s father then started getting text messages from a different number but the demand was only for $400.
Police and the FBI were able to “ping” Farley’s phone to Gray, Kentucky.
A drop-off point was set up and, when the father dropped off the money, police began going door-to-door in the area.
Police say they went to one apartment, asked for Abbygail and the people inside said she was there.
Farley was found unharmed.
Police say the other people in the apartment had no idea about the kidnapping and that Farley admitted to faking the kidnapping to get money from her father.
She was arrested and charged with of falsely reporting an incident, theft by extortion, theft by unlawful taking and disorderly conduct.
