Corbin man found guilty of devising murder-for-hire scheme

LONDON, Ky. (WTVQ) — It took a jury less than two hours to find a Corbin man guilty of plotting to have four people killed.

On Tuesday, 55-year-old William Timothy Sutton, of Corbin, was convicted of four counts of interstate murder-for-hire and one count of possession of firearms by a convicted felon.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Kentucky, while incarcerated in the Whitley County Detention Center in March 2017, Sutton offered to pay a fellow inmate $40,000 to murder the Whitley County Attorney, the Whitley/McCreary County Commonwealth’s Attorney, and two ex-girlfriends.

Prosecutors say Sutton mailed a letter to a relative from jail, telling the relative to give the would-be hitman one of Sutton’s guns to use for the murders.

Law enforcement found out about the plan, interceded, and ultimately arrested Sutton.

Sutton is scheduled to be sentenced on May 30, 2018.
