Coody keeps the lead in the ISCO Championship heading into Sunday
Plano, Texas native reaches -20 in third round
NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW)- Pierceson Coody has ended the first three days of the 2024 ISCO Championship at the top of the leaderboard. His final test, is if he can do it on Sunday.
Coody Keeps the Lead
The Plano, Texas native had a late tee time for the third round and during his time waiting, Englishmen Sam Bairstow and Harry Hall climbed up the leaderboard and held the top spots at one point.
Hall climbed up 23 spots to finish tied for second. Bairstow also threatened Coody’s lead too as he launched himself 45 spots to end tied for fourth after barely making the cut on Friday.
When Coody hit the course, he had a fight on his hands from the aforementioned golfers and Rico Hoey, who was the first golfer in the field to reach -20.
“Every shot counts and I certainly want to be the front runner. I certainly know how important every shot is. My whole goal is just to get myself back in the tournament, set myself up to go shoot a 7, 8 under round and close things out the best I can,” said Coody.
Breaking Down the Round
The front nine holes weren’t kind to Coody. He bogeyed three holes and was one over par after eight holes.
“I was obviously frustrated, but the more I kind of dwell on it and let myself fall into that frustration, I don’t think I would have bounced back the way I did. On a scale of one to 10 I was around a three or four, but knowing that I still had a lot of golf to get myself back in the tournament,” said Coody.
But, his back nine was sublime as Coody tallied an eagle to lift him above the pack.
“I hit a really nice tee shot there, had about 225 pin, 210 or 212 cover online and caught a little half the face on the downslope and got a really nice hop with how firms things are just short of the green, bounced up there about six, seven feet and rolled that in for eagle,” said Coody.
Championship Sunday
Below are the final standings and tee times for the frontrunners heading into the final round.
Former Kentucky Wildcat Cooper Musselman scored even and finished round three at -11.
He will have an earlier tee time compared to the front runners because of his current standing.
