Contract approved for Fayette County’s new superintendent
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Fayette County Board of Education on Thursday unanimously approved the new superintendent’s contract, according to the district.
Dr. Demetrus Liggins has a four-year contract. His start date is July 26, 2021. The contract sets out the salary, benefits, and other terms and conditions of employment. It runs through June 30, 2025, according to the district.
A social media post from Fayette County Board of Education Chair Tyler Murphy says Liggins’ base annual salary is $275,000.
“Dr. Liggins is very excited to get to Fayette County,” said Board of Education Chair Tyler Murphy. “We are looking forward to working with him in the future.”
Liggins is finishing his work and helping in the transition at Greenville Independent School District (ISD), an urban district outside of Dallas, Texas, where he has served as superintendent since 2016.
He will follow Manny Caulk, who served FCPS for five years until his death in December 2020. Veteran educator Marlene Helm has filled in as acting superintendent since November.
Liggins earned a bachelor’s in education and master’s degree in English from California State University, Fresno, and a Master of Education and superintendent certification from Stephen F. Austin State University. He received his Ph.D. in K-16 educational leadership and policy from University of Texas-Arlington.
