Congregations remember Avelar Family in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- Two different congregations are mourning the loss of a Lexington family after a weekend accident in Texas killed four of them and left three injured.

Israel Avelar and his three boys were killed Saturday morning in the crash. His wife, daughter and mother were injured but are expected to recover.

Sunday the congregation at Clays Mill Road Baptist Church mourned the loss of their beloved friends. Pastor Jeff Fugate called the family servants, saying they were involved in every ministry the church had to offer.

“He was a part of that mission we have to plant churches,” says Fugate of Israel, who had helped start a Spanish speaking church in Lexington a year and a half ago.

That church, Templo Bautista Biblico Fundamental Independiente de Lexington, is on Leestown Road.

Pastor Fugate says if people would like to financially support the Avelar Family, they can give to Clays Mill Road Baptist Church and designate their gift for the family.
