Doctor says Exantus competent for murder trial

VERSAILLES, Ky. (WTVQ) – Nearly 10 months after 6-year-old Logan Tipton was stabbed to death at his home in Versailles, the man accused in the case – Ronald Exantus – appeared in court for a competency hearing.

On Tuesday, Dr. Trivette, with the Kentucky Correctional Psychiatric Center (KCPC,) testified that she believed Exantus is competent to stand trial.

Since his arrest, Exantus has maintained that he had no recollection of murdering the young boy last December.  Exantus underwent a psychiatric evaluation from February to May of 2016. Dr. Trivette says during that time Exantus was given medication for anxiety and depression.

In today’s hearing, doctors revealed a little bit more about Exantus and his background.  Prior to Logan Tipton’s death, Exantus was employed as a registered nurse in Indiana.  He grew up in Florida and attended college there.  He was married and divorced in 2013, and has three children.

Doctors say Exantus told them he was on his way to Florida the night Tipton was killed.

Doctors also say Exantus had no legal or psychiatric history prior to the death.

Attorney Bridgette Hofler Told ABC 36 that she believes Exantus had some type of psychotic break and that medical professionals could not explain why.

A week prior to the murder, Exantus reported to KCPC doctors that he had not been sleeping and binged on alcohol and marijuana.

The competency hearing will continue on November 2nd.

ABC 36 will update this story as additional information becomes available.
