Community Rallies For Shooting Victim/Widow Of Killed Marine

Police now say there are two suspects in a Marine’s homicide.  At first, there was one suspect described as a panhandler.  Now police say two men tried to rob Megan and Jonathan Price in a Lexington parking lot , and ended up shooting them.

The Price’s were out celebrating Megan’s Birthday.

In barely a day people online donated nearly $13,000 for Megan.  At 24-years-old, she’s a widow, and every Birthday will remind her of that.

At 3-years-old, August 3rd, 1991, Jonathan Price was the ring bearer at Pam and Roger Newton’s wedding.

Exactly 22-years later Jonathan married Megan.  Pam Newton started babysitting him when he was 7 weeks old.

"He’s a jokester.  He liked to have fun, liked his boy toys, 4 wheelers, motorcycles, dirt bikes, and big trucks," said Pam Newton.

She never dreamed of outliving him.  She got the news in the car riding with her husband.

"I said Roger I think Jonathan Price was killed last night, and I immediately started crying and so when we got to a point where he could stop, and I handed him my phone, and we were both in shock," said Pam.

The Newtons say Jonathan would give anybody anything, but he’s famous for giving hugs.

"Like a big bear, picked you up off the ground, and you knew you’d been hugged and embraced when Jonathan gave you a hug," said Pam.

Megan and Jonathan love country music.  They went to Austin City Saloon for her Birthday.

Leaving, police say two men approached.  Police say one had a gun, and demanded money.  Police say there was an exchange of words, and then the shootings.  Police say the man shot Megan in the leg, and Jonathan in the back.

The Newtons think Jonathan took the bullet for Megan, and gave his life.

"He wanted to protect Megan, and part of that, I’m not sure of the details, but I just feel like he was a hero in serving our country, and I think he was a hero to the end," said Roger Newton.
