Community honors fallen Officer Hunter Miller in Danville
DANVILLE, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Family, friends, and fellow officers gathered at The Showroom in Danville to pay their respects to Officer Hunter Miller, who tragically passed away on July 25th. Officer Miller, 24, died during a training exercise for a Special Response Team at the Northpoint Training Center.
The service saw an outpouring of support from the community, as those who knew and worked with Miller came together to honor his life and service. Miller had dedicated the past two years to his role as a correction officer.
Department of Corrections Commissioner Cookie Crews expressed the deep sorrow felt by Miller’s colleagues, stating, “Our hearts are heavy right now as we mourn the loss of Officer Miller. His service and dedication to protecting those in his custody and the communities in which our facilities are located is honorable. We will forever remember the life he lived and Officer Miller will always be a member of our department and Team Kentucky.”
In tribute to Officer Miller, Governor Andy Beshear ordered flags to be flown at half-staff, encouraging residents across the state to join in honoring his memory.
