Community to discuss heroin problem in Rowan Co.

MOREHEAD, Ky. (WTVQ) – In the wake of a rash of heroin overdoses, and with the toxic drug still in the area, community leaders, healthcare providers, and law enforcement will lead a panel discussion in Rowan County Tuesday evening.

The discussion will be held at the Morehead Conference Center (111 East 1st Street,) at 6:00 p.m.

The Rowan Co. Sheriff says that last Thursday, seven people overdosed in an 18-hour period.  For one person, a 36-year-old man, the overdose was fatal.  Morehead-Rowan County EMS Director, Danny Blevins, says the swarm of apparent heroin overdoses resulted from the circulation of deadly doses of altered heroin in the area.

Organizers hope the panel discussion will help identify problems and solutions to the epidemic, and spotlight resources available to those affected.
