Comer picks up endorsement from Rep. Massie
FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — Republican U.S. Rep. Thomas Massie has become the second Kentucky congressman to endorse James Comer’s bid for governor.
Massie said Wednesday that Comer has been an effective advocate for farmers as state agriculture commissioner. Massie, whose district is in northern Kentucky, says Comer has restored trust in the agriculture commissioner’s office.
Comer’s predecessor, Richie Farmer, pleaded guilty to government corruption charges and was sentenced to prison.
Massie joins U.S. Rep. Ed Whitfield in backing Comer’s run for governor in 2015. Whitfield represents western Kentucky.
Former Louisville councilman Hal Heiner is another Republican running for governor.
Another Republican, Kentucky Supreme Court Justice Will T. Scott, is stepping down from the court and is considering a run for governor.
Democrats in the race are state Attorney General Jack Conway and former congressional candidate Geoff Young.
