Colombia to hold Oct. 2 plebiscite on peace deal with FARC

(AP) — Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos says he will hold a plebiscite Oct. 2 for citizens to vote on a peace deal with the country’s biggest rebel group.

Santos says that on Thursday he will present to Colombia’s congress for consideration the final accord with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia.

Lawmakers have a month to comment but cannot block Santos’ plans for the plebiscite. Voters will have the final say on ratifying the agreement reached Wednesday night after four years of talks in Havana.
