Clay County Detention Center faces COVID outbreak
CLAY COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – The spread of COVID-19 is affecting every population. Now, the detention center in Clay County faces an outbreak.
According to the Clay County Jailer’s Facebook page, nine employees and 67 inmates have tested positive for COVID.
The post said that despite taking every precaution and following CDC guidelines, “the virus has spread like wildfire.”
While social distancing presents a challenge in a jail setting, the detention center said it is quarantining individuals as they come into the facility, it is utilizing mask requirements and taking all sanitation precautions.
The statement said that most of the inmates have little or no symptoms and the facility is providing medication to make them comfortable.
It also noted that 113 inmates have been vaccinated and 26 of those tested positive.
