Clay Co. woman accused of killing man reported as missing

MANCHESTER, Ky. (WTVQ) — A Clay County woman was arrested over the weekend after being accused of killing a man who was reported as missing.

According to Kentucky State Police, a man’s body was found near Crawfish Road around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 6.

The body was later identified as Rufus Smallwood, 77, who had been reported as missing to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office on Jan. 5.

Smallwood had visible injuries suggestive of foul play, KSP added.

John-Lee Couch, a 44-year-old woman, was arrested and charged with murder and robbery.

KSP is continuing to investigate.
