Clark County deputy jailer accused of accepting $400 to smuggle drugs
CLARK COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – A 48-year-old Clark County Detention Center deputy jailer admitted to accepting $400 to deliver a drug-filled cell phone to inmates, according to arrest records obtained by WTVQ ABC 36 News.
Billy Jones, of 117 Sturbridge Lane in Winchester, faces an Oct. 25 hearing in Clark County District Court, according to the citation.
According to the arrest citations, Jones, a former Clark County fire chief, faces charges of second-degree promoting contraband and first-degree official misconduct.
The citation alleges Jones admitted to meeting a woman at a Winchester convenience store and accepting the $400 and the cell phone which contained 21 grams of heroin, eight grams of meth, and 50 suboxone strips. Jones handed the phone off to an inmate in the jail, according to the affidavits.
The cell phone was found during a search by deputies.
Jones admitted to bringing another cell phone and chewing tobacco into the jail on two previous occasions in December 2020 and January 2021, according to the affidavits.
