Clark County Deputy Helps Homeless Man Out of Bitter Cold
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) When it starts to freeze, many of the homeless might head to a shelter. But, what happens if a homeless person doesn’t want to go to a shelter? That’s exactly what one Clark County Sheriff Deputy came across Wednesday night.
It started off as a call about a small brush fire off Rockwell Road in Winchester, near the Treehaven Mobile Home Park. The fire was quickly put out, but someone reported seeing a man in the area.
When deputies caught up with the man they found out that he was homeless and started the fire keep warm.
Deputy Casey Caudill says it’s not uncommon to see the homeless brave the elements. However, when the man insisted on walking to the next county, the deputy offered him a ride instead.
“It’s snowing, it’s cold, it’s sleeting,” said Deputy Caudill. “He wasn’t dressed nearly as warm as myself. He also wasn’t in a warm car for the night. I Felt like, I couldn’t leave him on the side of the interstate. So I felt like I had to take him somewhere warmer.”
Deputy Caudill dropped the man off in the Hamburg area. He also gave him a few dollars for a bite to eat. A kind gesture the deputy didn’t think twice about.
