City preps for Sweet 16 celebrations

LEXINGTON, Ky (WTVQ) – The city of Lexington and first responders are preparing for celebrations after UK’s Sweet 16 game against WVU.

Firefighters spent Wednesday going door-to-door handing out fliers on how to celebrate safely.

It was just after the Sweet 16 game last year, when UK beat Louisville, crazy celebrations started. With the Cats’ undefeated record this year, the city isn’t taking any chances.

Wednesday was the second time firefighters handed out the fliers. They’re hoping the message to act responsibly after the game sticks.

Some people living in the State Street area believe there will be couch burnings no matter what but say the precautions are necessary.

Lexington Police were walking around the off-campus area Wednesday evening.

Code enforcement has declared that area an ‘emergency area’ starting Thursday morning. Parking restrictions start Thursday evening.
