City of Lexington to intervene in solar energy plan

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – City officials in Lexington are petitioning to intervene in a case regarding a proposed solar energy facility by East Kentucky Power Cooperative.

The proposal involves constructing the facility on a 387-acre farm in the eastern part of Fayette County, which is currently zoned for agriculture.

City officials have petitioned the State Public Service Commission for the right to intervene, expressing concerns about potential permanent consequences of the project.

Mayor Linda Gorton highlighted the city’s apprehensions regarding the long-term impact on the area’s agricultural zoning and land use.
