City leaders announce upcoming Transportation Expo

Organizers encourage community input at upcoming expo

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — This weekend, residents will have an opportunity to voice their thoughts on mass transit and road improvements across Lexington, at the Transportation Expo, recently announced during a press conference by the Lexington Fayette Urban County Council.

The event was created in response to a troubling increase in cyclist and pedestrian fatalities throughout the county.

City leaders emphasize that the expo will serve as a platform for community members to share their daily challenges when navigating Lexington’s streets. They hope this engagement will foster greater community involvement in the decision-making process concerning Fayette County’s transit system.

A local organization attending the press conference highlighted the need of this event for community safety.

“Often times being a pedestrian can be someone’s primary mode of transportation, and sometimes being a pedestrian can be dangerous. Our group has seen this first hand as last year one of our members Mia Ibrahim, was killed in a crosswalk when a driver ran a red light. We know it can be dangerous to be a pedestrian but we know there are proven ways to make our city safer for Lexington,” said Jason Schubert with Frontrunner Lexington.

The Transportation Expo is scheduled for Saturday morning from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. at the Marksbury Family Branch of the Lexington Public Library. Residents are encouraged to participate and contribute to the conversation about improving transportation safety and efficiency in Lexington.
