City crews monitoring Lexington roads Tuesday night as temperatures drop

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – City officials say road crews will be out through the evening and overnight hours as temperatures fall and the risk of refreezing increases.

According to a release from the City of Lexington, Streets & Roads and Water Quality teams spent Tuesday treating neighborhood roads included in the city’s snow plan. Several day-shift crews will remain on duty until 8 p.m. to take care of any trouble spots, while overnight crews will handle calls through 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Even though Tuesday’s precipitation wrapped up early, officials warn that roads could refreeze once temperatures drop, creating black ice — especially on bridges, overpasses and untreated pavement. Drivers are urged to slow down and use caution.

Between 5 a.m. and 3 p.m. Tuesday, Lexington Police responded to five injury collisions, 13 non-injury crashes, 16 traffic hazards and 20 calls for motorist assistance.

The city also says its Emergency Weather Plan for homelessness remains in effect through Friday, Dec. 5. The plan includes expanded shelter space and free transportation. More information and a list of available shelters can be found at lexingtonky.gov/homelessness-prevention-and-intervention.
Anyone who sees someone who may need shelter is asked to call Lexington Police’s non-emergency line at (859) 258-3600.

Lexington’s full snow-removal plan, including ranked streets and sidewalks, is available at lexingtonky.gov/snow. Updates on plowing progress, delays and closings are posted at lexingtonky.gov/snowupdates.
