Citation: 22-year-old accused of killing father, stabbing uncle in Georgetown

GEORGETOWN, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – An arrest citation for a 22-year-old accused of killing one person and seriously injuring another in Georgetown on May 22 reveals additional information about the incident.

According to the citation, the suspect, Jonathan Hunter Mullins, was detained when officers arrived on the scene after they “observed a round in his hand that appeared to be a .22 caliber round.”

The citation details that the man who was found dead at the scene from a gunshot wound and identified by the Scott County Coroner as 50-year-old James Evan Mullins, is Jonathan’s father.

According to the citation, the second victim, who was injured from multiple stab wounds during the incident and taken to the hospital for treatment, is Jonathan’s uncle.

The citation states that the uncle told officers that he “heard what sounded like a gunshot and ran out of his bedroom.” It further details that the uncle saw Jonathan with a gun, and they began to wrestle.

As a result, the citation states that Jonathan grabbed a knife and began stabbing his uncle “in the face and chest area multiple times.”

The Scott County Coroner has confirmed the victim in a Friday evening shooting in Georgetown as 50-year-old James Evan Mullins.

22-year-old Jonathan Hunter Mullins now faces an assault and murder charge in connection.

According to a prior arrest citation, Mullins has been arrested before for a wanton endangerment charge involving a firearm.

Officers first responded to a home on December 2021 for reports of a male with a shotgun. At the time, another individual alleged that Mullins “chased him, pointed a shotgun at him and told him to leave.”

Police say that Mullins later answered the door for officers with a rifle. He was found guilty on that charge in May 2023.

UPDATE: May 23 at 11 a.m.

Georgetown Police has now released the identity of the individual charged in a Friday evening homicide.

According to GPD, officers responded to the area of Hutchins Drive around 5:30 p.m., where they located a male victim with a gunshot wound; that individual was pronounced dead on scene.

Another male victim with “serious physical injuries consistent with a stabbing” was also located and transported to a local hospital.

22-year-old Jonathan Hunter Mullins of Georgetown has been charged with murder and first-degree assault, and has been lodged in the Scott County Detention Center.

One person is dead and another person is in custody following an afternoon incident in Georgetown.

According to Georgetown Police, officers responded to the 200 block of Hutchins Drive around 5:30 p.m. for reports of an unknown problem. When they arrived, they located one person dead inside the home and another person with injuries nearby; that person was transported to a local hospital, and their current status is unknown.

One person remains in custody, police say. GPD asks the public to avoid the area, where a scene remains active.
