Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky airport to demolish Concourse C

CINCINNATI (AP) – A once major concourse at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport will start disappearing this summer.

Airport officials tell The Cincinnati Enquirer (http://cin.ci/1X0ffEP ) that Concourse C will be torn down beginning in August.

The concourse was permanently closed to passengers in 2008. Officials expect it will take about a year to tear down the concourse and renovate the site, which is set to become parking for airplanes and a deicing pad.

Delta Air Lines initially planned to lease Concourse C through 2025, but the airport – located in Hebron, Kentucky – renegotiated its agreement with the airline following CVG’s new contract with passenger and cargo carriers.

Delta and CVG first opened Concourse C in 1994, but the airline began focusing elsewhere after gaining new hubs following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
