Chronic Wasting Disease confirmed in Pulaski County deer, second case in Kentucky

PULASKI COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Kentucky wildlife officials have confirmed another case of a deadly disease affecting deer.

The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife says Chronic Wasting Disease, or CWD, has been detected in a wild deer harvested this season in Pulaski County — marking the state’s second confirmed case in a wild deer.

CWD is a fatal neurological disease that impacts deer and elk. While it’s not known to spread to humans, the CDC recommends avoiding meat from infected animals.

Fish and Wildlife will hold a public meeting in Pulaski County next month to discuss next steps and testing options. Officials say hunters can help by submitting deer heads for free CWD testing through the department’s website, by clicking HERE.
