Chris Oliver steps down as Georgetown College head football coach
Defensive Coordinator John Perin elevated to head coach of the Tigers
GEORGETOWN, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW)- Georgetown College Head Football Coach Chris Oliver is stepping away from his post and coaching.
Tigers Defensive Coordinator John Perin has been elevated to Head Football Coach.
Oliver will remain the school’s Vice President of Athletics, a role which he took on in April.
“Georgetown College is at a transformative moment in our story and I am eager to play a role in moving our department and our College forward to continued excellence,” said Oliver.
A New Era
Perin came to Georgetown in 2022 from Birmingham-Southern College. Since then, his Tiger defenses have averaged a stingy 16.3 points allowed per game.
“Working alongside our student-athletes and staff, we will build upon the strong foundation of this program and continue the tradition of excellence that defines Georgetown College Football,” said Perin.
The Centre College alumnus has been on staff at his alma mater, Morehead State University, Eastern Michigan University and Capital University as well.
“I’ve watched John embrace the history and traditions of our program and also work to build meaningful relationships with those who care deeply about Tiger football. I am confident that our program and our young men are in great hands,” said Oliver.
Thanks for Coach O
Oliver leaves the helm after a three year stint as head coach.
During his time with the Tigers, his teams won two Mid-South Conference titles and made two deep runs in the NAIA Playoffs.
Standouts were easy to find under Oliver’s leadership. 37 Tigers earned spots on Mid-South All-Conference First or Second Teams in the past three years.
“Under (Oliver’s) exceptional leadership, the program has thrived and his dedication has left a lasting mark on our team. I’m looking forward to working alongside him as we both contribute to the continued growth of this great college,” said Perin.
