Chipotle stores to close for food safety staff meeting

(WTVQ/CNN) – Chipotle stores across the country including those in Kentucky will close for four hours on Monday.

Chipotle representatives say they are holding a company-wide staff meeting about food safety from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The move comes after an E-coli outbreak at the Mexican restaurant last year. Several reports say that about 500 people got sick including several basketball players at Boston College.

The chain implemented its food safety program in January. The program includes paid sick leave to make sure employees will stay home when they’re sick and testing ingredients before they’re shipped to restaurants. There is also some changes in how food is washed and prepared.

The Centers for Disease and Control announced last week that the outbreak that started in July appears to be over. However, the cause of the E-coli outbreak remains unknown.
