Chilly start with frost and freeze concerns before a big warm-up across Kentucky
Temperatures drop into the 30s tonight with frost and freeze alerts in place before sunshine and warmer air return, pushing highs back into the 70s and 80s
Cooler but Pleasant Conditions Return
Tuesday turned out to be another really nice day across central and eastern Kentucky. We saw plenty of sunshine, but temperatures were about 10 degrees cooler compared to previous days.
Afternoon highs generally topped out in the mid to upper 50s, with a few spots reaching into the low 60s. It felt comfortable overall, but definitely a reminder that cooler air is still hanging around.
Frost and Freeze Concerns Tonight
As we head into tonight, temperatures will drop off quickly under mostly clear skies.
Overnight lows are expected to fall into the mid 30s, and that’s cold enough to bring concerns for frost and even freezing temperatures in some areas.
A Frost Advisory is in place for parts of northern and southern Kentucky, while a Freeze Warning has been issued for much of eastern Kentucky. In fact, some communities northeast of Lexington have a strong chance of dipping below freezing, which could cause damage to sensitive plants.
If you’re heading out early Wednesday morning, it’s going to feel chilly — and you’ll definitely want that jacket.
Sunshine and a Quick Warm-Up Wednesday
The good news is that the cool air won’t stick around long.
As we head into Wednesday, winds will shift and begin pulling in warmer air from the south. That will allow temperatures to rebound nicely into the upper 60s and even low 70s by the afternoon.
With mostly sunny skies and light winds, it’s shaping up to be a really pleasant day across the region.
Warm Pattern Builds Through the Week
Looking ahead, the forecast only gets better if you’re a fan of warmer weather.
Temperatures will continue to climb:
- 70s by Thursday and Friday
- Upper 70s to near 80 by the weekend
- Low 80s possible by Sunday into early next week
High pressure will keep things mostly dry, with plenty of sunshine sticking around for several days.
Small Rain Chances Return This Weekend
While most of the week looks dry, we will have to keep an eye on a weak system toward the end of the week.
There’s a slight chance for isolated showers or a storm Friday into Saturday, but coverage looks very limited. At this point, Saturday appears to have the better chance, though still very spotty.
Most locations may stay completely dry, so outdoor plans should be in good shape overall.
