Chicago tops list of worst U.S. traffic cities in new Inrix congestion report
(ABC36 NEWS NOW) – A new transportation survey ranks Chicago as the worst city for traffic in the United States this year.
The annual report from transportation analytics company Inrix found that Chicago drivers lost an average of 112 hours to congestion in 2024, the highest in the nation. New York City, which topped the list last year, dropped to second place as overall congestion levels held steady. Inrix noted that the city’s new congestion pricing policy may have contributed to keeping traffic from worsening.
Rounding out the top five most congested U.S. cities were Philadelphia, Los Angeles and Boston. Nationwide, the typical driver lost 49 hours sitting in traffic this year — six more than in 2023.
