Charges pending in Winchester animal neglect case
CLARK COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) — Five animals were rescued from a Winchester home this past weekend and shelter officials are calling it the worst animal neglect case they’ve seen in the county.
Clark County Animal Shelter Director Adrianna Wills sayscharges are pending against the owners of the animals.
She says a voice message left at the shelter on Saturday told her about the situation at hand and once she arrived at the house the dogs were in horrible condition. She adds two of the four dogs couldn’t even stand up, yet alone walk.
Four dogs and a cat were found at the home on Linden Avenue.
Wills says the house was flea-infested with feces and urine everywhere and just all around deplorable.
The manager of the property, Edwina Fraley, says, “It’s sad what these dogs looked like I actually cried when they took the little Chihuahua out because it was so bad and I couldn’t believe that they were capable of something like this.”
Fraley says the house had no utilities on at all so no air or water for these animals.
The shelter director says neighbors told her the people living there hadn’t been there for weeks, maybe months.
She adds, “Honestly with the condition of some of them if this had gone on for several more days we may had been removing remains of animals versus live animals.”
But on a more positive note, Wills says the animals are improving and responding well.
She says it will be weeks before they’re 100-percent and they need help covering medical expenses so they’re asking for donations.
You can donate at their website or at the shelter located at 5000 Ironworks Road in Winchester.
