Charges filed in false robbery report
NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ) -Nicholasville Police have filed a criminal complaint against a man they say gave them false information about a robbery.
Officers say 22-year-old Anees Hamad reported a robbery on November 19. According to police, Hamad told them two armed suspects had forced him to drive from the Kroger at Brannon Crossing to the Jessamine/Garrard Co. line, then took his cash, a cell phone, and his vehicle and drove off.
Officers say further investigation, however, revealed that while a robbery did take place, Hamad altered the circumstances and location of the incident. According to investigators, Hamad knew the suspects, and the robbery was not a random event.
A criminal complaint was filed against Hamad for falsely reporting an incident. Officers say they are working with Hamad in an attempt to develop further information about the incident.
